Recently TISS (Tata Institute of Social Sciences) has been under the line of fire for some of the dissertations that have been published under its supervision that call for the balkanization of the Indian State. The key question then is who gets to decide what is justified and what isn’t justified in Academic discourse? Should government-funded institutes be spending taxpayer money on dissertations that call for the dissolution of the Indian state? If yes why? If no why?
